Canton – Vivian Ragsdale, 97, of Canton, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Red Oak Estates in Canton.
She was born on June 4, 1920, in Clay County, IL to Holly H. and Nina M. (Johnson) Moore.
She married Dr. Jack S. Ragsdale on June 12, 1950 in Memphis, TN. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2005.
Also preceding her in death is her daughter Kay.
Surviving is her daughter Jean (Chuck) Sheldon of Slidell, LA, two granddaughters Phoebe Sheldon of Metairie, LA, Holly (Thomas) Plunkett of Winnetka, CA and one Great granddaughter, Ophelia Sheldon of Metairie, LA.
She was a graduate of the Christian Welfare School of Nursing of East St. Louis. She was veteran of WWII serving in the Navy Nurse’s Corps as a first Lieutenant. She traveled extensively as a nurse in the polio epidemic. She was employed by Florida, Tennessee and Illinois hospitals as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Canton.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, March5, 2018, at 11 am, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. There will be no visitation.
Memorials can be made to the 1st Baptist Church.
