Nuiel Atchley
Canton – Nuiel Atchley, 81, of Canton, passed away at 3:52 PM on Monday, January 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born on April 11, 1935 in Russell Springs, KY to Augustus and Lula (Huckaby) Atchley. He married Phyllis Rae Senders on December 29, 1954 in Canton; she preceded him in death on December 16, 2010.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Beverly Ann Atchley; one grandson, Kyle Atchley; and one brother, Ernest Atchley.
Surviving are three children, Rev. Richard (Debbie) Atchley of Sandoval, IL, Robbin Atchley of Canton, IL, and Carrie (Steve) Christy of Clark, MO; nine grandchildren, Nuiel (Wendy) Atchley, Dennis (Dena) Atchley, Chelsea (Jeff) Jansen; Kenny (Laura) Atchley; Jonathan (Ashley) Atchley, Brandon Atchley, Jeremiah “Miah” Atchley, Ricky (Nicole) Christy, and Caitlin (Josh) Bullock; eight great-grandchildren, Bailey, Hannah, Jordyn, Bronson, Peyton, Claire, Deegan, and Decker; two brothers, David (Pat) Atchley of Norris, IL, and Gary (Mary) Atchley of Jackson, MI; and one sister, Gladys (Bob) Pump.
Nuiel retired from Caterpillar after 31 years. He was a member of South Park United Methodist Church in Canton, and a past member of Norris Volunteer Fire Department. Nuiel loved to golf, fish, hunt, garden, and bowl. He was the former city doubles champion along with Chick Prosser. Nuiel was an inventor and really just a jack of all trades. He was an avid Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. Nuiel services his country in the Air Force from 1954-1963.
Services will be at 12 PM noon on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 N. Main St., Canton, where a visitation will be from 10-12 PM. Pastors Ardith Corsaw and Wally Carlson will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
