Canton – Charles E. Mulligan Sr., 82, of Canton, passed away at 12:33 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on January 19, 1935 in Canton to Louis and Ruth (Fourdyce) Mulligan. He married Bonnie Griggs on May 10, 1960 in Canton. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Mulligan Sr.; one grandchild; four brothers and one sister.
Surviving are four children, Susan (Mike) Grady of Galesburg, Annette (Greg) Reith of Canton, Charles (Dawn) Mulligan Jr. of Canton, and Jan (Andy) Empey of Canton; daughter-in-law, Sandy Mulligan; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George “Fred” Mulligan of Canton; and three sisters, Nelda Wages of FL, Dona -Maxwell of Canton, Peggy McCreight of Shelby, N.C.
Charles was the owner of Canton Mobile Homes in Canton and later owned Budget RV Park in Donna, TX. He also drove a truck for many businesses for multiple years. For several years, he was a boxing referee and coach for Fulton Co. Silver Gloves Boxing. Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 N. Main St., Canton, IL. Rev. Dennis Owens will officiate. A visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Memorials can be made to First Church of thel Nazarene, Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
