Melba Jean Burget
Melba Jean Burget, 81, of Lewistown, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 7:24 pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Prairie Heart Institute in Springfield. She was born on July 22, 1935 in Canton, the daughter of Howard and Pauline (Stockham) Ogden. Jean married Virgil Burget on August 20, 1949 in Wickliffe, KY. He survives.
Also surviving are her 5 sons, Steven (and Pam) Burget of Astoria, Stanley (and Sandy) Burget of Lewistwon, Scott (and Teresa) Burget of Rushville, Sheldon (and Brenda) Burget of Lewistown, and Shelby Burget of Astoria, daughter, Sharon (and Steve) Musson of Astoria, son-in-law, Robert Wells of Canton, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and her sister, Judy Windsor of Summum.
Preceding her in death is her son, Stewart Burget, daughter, Sherry Wells, grandson, James Cannon, 2 great- granddaughters, Samantha and Reese Carithers, brother, John Ogden and her sister, Charlotte Towery.
Jean worked as a CNA at Havana Healthcare, Astoria Care Center and the Elms in Macomb. She also worked at Bob’s Dairy Dipper in Astoria.
Jean along with Irene Brown were well known as the “Craft Girls” at Spoon River Towers, decorating for every season and occasion. She loved flowers.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Terry Lucas will be Officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria, IL.
