Larry D. Rilea
Lewistown – Larry Dean Rilea, 80, of Lewistown, formerly of Liverpool, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton. Larry was born on January 22, 1937 in Liverpool, IL, the son of Arnold and Sylvia (Riley) Rilea.
Surviving are four children: Echo Wilson, Larry Daniel Rilea, Marcena Gabrielson, and Kathy Rilea; three step children: Ron Mutton, Crystal Stegens, and Chip Stegens; ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters: Lowane Coppenbarger, and Beverly David; one brother: Fred Rilea.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, one sister, Judy and one brother, Rick, and his parents.
Upon graduation from Lewistown High School in 1956, Larry served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years. He was a skilled welder, as well as talented artist and musician. He loved animals and his beloved dog, Deacon, and had a particular passion for finches. He is remembered as a reserved, gracious, accepting and humble man.
Larry was a member of His River of Life Church in Liverpool, and member of the Lewistown VFW Post# 5001, and an avid Cubs Fan.
Per Larry’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 North Main St. Canton. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at His River of Life Church in Liverpool. Rev. Sheldon Westerfield will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the town hall in Liverpool, IL. Burial of ashes will be in Liverpool Cemetery following the services, with military honors conducted by United States Navy. Marion Orendorff Tarr
Canton – Marion Orendorff Tarr, 90, of Canton, passed away on January 29, 2017, at 11:59 a.m., at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born on October 19, 1926 in Canton to John R. and Josephine (Thomas) Orendorff. They preceded her in death.
She married Paul S. Tarr on November 18, 1945 in Canton. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1981.
Surviving are her children, Joanna (Jim) Carter of Canton, Paula (Tom) Dearing of Poplar Grove, IL, Jim (Chris) Tarr of Bloomington, grandchildren Jennifer (Keith) Kobetitsch, Matthew (Michelle) Dearing, James C. (Julie) Tarr, Carrie Bruketta, Jessica (Brad) Eskridge, great grandchildren, Bryce and Austin Kobetitsch, Elizabeth and Andrew Dearing, Bailey, Blake and Faith Bruketta, Hadley and Havenley Eskridge, Step grandchildren, J.D. “Buddy” (Christy) Carter, Heidi (Joey) Hart, Victoria (Derek) Salazar, Erika (Jack) Dylke, Kelly Bechtelheimer and step great grandchildren, Winifred, Serena, Carter, Gibson, Jordan, Levi, Marcus and Zakary.
Also preceding her in death are two brothers, John and Dick Orendorff and three sisters, Annabelle Graham, Jo Keaton and Katherine Martens.
Marion taught piano for over 60 years. She played the piano and organ at the South Park United Methodist Church and Evangelical United Bretheren Church and later played at the First Baptist Church for over 30 years.
She volunteered at FCRC for the music program once a week for over 50 years. She volunteered for the music program at Sunset Manor and accompanied for many school activities, women’s clubs and community events. She was one of the original 6 members of the Baton and Dance group at the Canton Senior High School. She developed a comedy routine called “Aunt Marion” and she performed it at many community events, church events, clubs and reunions. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017, from 5-7:30 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Funeral services will be Friday, February 3, 2017, at 11 am, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. The Rev. Monroe Bailey will officiate.

Melba Jean Burget
Melba Jean Burget, 81, of Lewistown, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 7:24 pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Prairie Heart Institute in Springfield. She was born on July 22, 1935 in Canton, the daughter of Howard and Pauline (Stockham) Ogden. Jean married Virgil Burget on August 20, 1949 in Wickliffe, KY. He survives.
Also surviving are her 5 sons, Steven (and Pam) Burget of Astoria, Stanley (and Sandy) Burget of Lewistwon, Scott (and Teresa) Burget of Rushville, Sheldon (and Brenda) Burget of Lewistown, and Shelby Burget of Astoria, daughter, Sharon (and Steve) Musson of Astoria, son-in-law, Robert Wells of Canton, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and her sister, Judy Windsor of Summum.
Preceding her in death is her son, Stewart Burget, daughter, Sherry Wells, grandson, James Cannon, 2 great- granddaughters, Samantha and Reese Carithers, brother, John Ogden and her sister, Charlotte Towery.
Jean worked as a CNA at Havana Healthcare, Astoria Care Center and the Elms in Macomb. She also worked at Bob’s Dairy Dipper in Astoria.
Jean along with Irene Brown were well known as the “Craft Girls” at Spoon River Towers, decorating for every season and occasion. She loved flowers.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Terry Lucas will be Officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria. Charles E. Mulligan Sr.
Canton – Charles E. Mulligan Sr., 82, of Canton, passed away at 12:33 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on January 19, 1935 in Canton to Louis and Ruth (Fourdyce) Mulligan. He married Bonnie Griggs on May 10, 1960 in Canton. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Mulligan Sr.; one grandchild; four brothers and one sister.
Surviving are four children, Susan (Mike) Grady of Galesburg, Annette (Greg) Reith of Canton, Charles (Dawn) Mulligan Jr. of Canton, and Jan (Andy) Empey of Canton; daughter-in-law, Sandy Mulligan; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George “Fred” Mulligan of Canton; and three sisters, Nelda Wages of FL, Dona -Maxwell of Canton, Peggy McCreight of Shelby, N.C.
Charles was the owner of Canton Mobile Homes in Canton and later owned Budget RV Park in Donna, TX. He also drove a truck for many businesses for multiple years. For several years, he was a boxing referee and coach for Fulton Co. Silver Gloves Boxing. Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 N. Main St., Canton, IL. Rev. Dennis Owens will officiate. Evelyn June Chaney
Dunfermline – Evelyn June Chaney, 85, of Dunfermline, passed away at 5:05 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Renaissance Care Center. She was born on January 28, 1931 in Canton, IL to Thomas and Jennie (Franciskovich) Clark.
Surviving are five children, Edgar H. “Sonny” (Rose) Thomas III of Bryant, Ellen Jo (Ron) Frasier of Canton, Liz (Larry) Ernst of Canton, Ed A. Thomas of Canton, and Robert “Bobby Lee” (Leisa) Thomas of Bartonville; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Stephen Clark of OK; five sisters, Janice Archibeque of Arizona, Jeanetta Malone, Joanna Pratt, Alice Smith, and Betty Fitch all of Illiniois ; and a grandson, J.J. Montgomery whom she helped raise.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, and step-parents, Robert Mitchell, and Betty Schuman, two children, Edith Kay Lyons, and Eric Gene Thomas, and one brother, August Clark, and two sisters, Lula Mae Burgess, and Joyce Rollin.
Evelyn worked at Tempo Department Store, Havana Manufacturing Works, and was a CNA. She was a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge in Canton, IL. Evelyn was a daily visitor of Elm Street CafĂ© in Canton, she loved to go to the boat with her friend Rosie Wells, and check on Geraldine Shores, bringing her food whenever she cooked. Evelyn loved all holidays, and sending out a card to almost everyone she knew, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, not a day went by that she didn’t think or worry about them.
Services will be at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 N. Main St., Canton, where a visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 PM. Rev. Canton – Harlen B. Duckwiler, 88, of Canton, passed away at 11:03 pm, Monday, January 24, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on March 13, 1928 in Chandlerville, IL. to Leo and Iva (Force) Duckwiler. Harlen married Wilma Anderson on September 11, 1948 in Ashland, IL. She survives along with two children; Thelma Webb of Canton and Melvin L. (Bonnie) Duckwiler of Dunfermline, two brothers; Daniel and Edward both of Chandlerville, two sisters; Janet Landis of Beardstown and Clara Boyd of Wooster, OH, eight grandchildren; Edward Henderson, Michael Clark, Bobbie Gossett, Michelle Clark, Steven Duckwiler, Danny Duckwiler, Melvin Duckwiler Jr, and Marcus Clark and thirteen great-grandchildren. Harlen was preceded in death by his parents, three children; Alan Duckwiler, Dean Duckwiler, and Nancy Clark, one brother, and five sisters.
Harlen worked at Caterpillar as a repairman, retiring in 1981. He was a lifetime member of Black Diamond and a member of the UAW.

Canton – Charles W. Putman, 81, of Canton passed away at 3:45 am Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on August 24, 1935 in Ellisville to Franklin and Margaret (Stuckey) Putman. Charles married Joyce Werry on April 20, 1957 in Canton. She survives along with two children; Crystal Keller and Troy (Melanie) Putman both of Canton, two sisters; Mary Ellen Freeman and Helen Reffett both of Canton, four grandchildren; Rachel (Cody) Jones, Alaina Keller, Carley Putman, and Gabriel Putman and a great-grandson Berkeley Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Russell, John, Robert, and Gordon, and four sisters; Harriett Burkhead, Maxine Hopkins, Dixie Chatterton, and Vivian Putman.
Charles was the owner/operator of Canton’s Bestway and the Flavor Factory in Cuba. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton and served in the National Guard.

Victor H. Danner
Victor H. Danner, age 85 of Decatur, IL, passed away at 10:00 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home. He was born on October 16, 1931 in Woodland Twp., Fulton Co., IL, the son of Hart F. and Iona F. (Hetrick) Danner. He married Dorothy E. France on March 7, 1954 in Astoria, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are one son Scott (and Lori) Danner of Decatur, three grandchildren; Nicole (and Sean) Ekiss of Mt. Zion, IL, Jason (and fiancé Jacque Welton) Danner of Decatur, and Jessica (and Jeremy Smith) Danner of Mt. Zion, two great-grandchildren, Aiden Ekiss and Ashlynn Danner, and two sisters, Evelyn Danner and Helen E. Wise, both of Astoria.
Victor was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter Aubrey Page Danner, one sister Charlotte Danner, and his parents.
He was a 1949 graduate of Astoria High School and the College of Advanced Traffic in Chicago in 1956.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954 in Tokyo, Japan.
Vic and Dorothy owned and operated Danner Electric Shop in Astoria from 1961 to 1967, before moving to Littleton, CO. He was a Union Electrician and a 45 year member of IBEW Local 68 in Denver, CO.
He is a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW Post 99 in Decatur, a member of the Decatur American Legion Post 105, a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge Number 116 in Vermont, IL, Scottish Rite Bodies (Consistory) in Springfield, IL, ANSAR Shrine Temple in Springfield, and a life member (Order of El Coyote) El Jebel Temple in Denver, CO.
Victor was also a member of AARP, the IBEW Local 193 Retirees Club in Springfield, the South Side Gun Club (Range Officer) of Littleton, CO and a former member of the NRA.
He was an instructor for the Colorado Hunter Safety courses and worked with Habitat for Humanity in Springfield. He served 10 years as Cadre, TO,XO and commanding officer of US Naval Sea Cadet Corps in Denver, CO.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 24th from 2-3 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Graveside military honors will be at 3:30 pm at the Astoria Cemetery provided by the Astoria American Legion Post 25. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Society of Illinois.
Dorothy Marie Jacobus
Lewistown – Dorothy Marie Jacobus, 90, of Lewistown, passed away January 20, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born July 12, 1926, in Jackson, Minnesota to Henrietta Landis Fillingham and Perry Landis,. She married Gardner J. Jacobus, He preceded her in death in May of 2002
She is survived by one daughter Janet (Larry) Winship, and one son Dave (Carolyn) Jacobus. Also surviving is one sister Jean Mulligan, one sister in-law Audrey Jacobus, four grandchildren, Amy, Aaron, Derek, and Mark, Three step grandchildren Candace, Carrie, and Derek, Six great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
Dorothy attended the Lewistown United Methodist Church, she was a 50 year member of the Lewistown chapter of Eastern Stars and was a Worthy Matron in 1955, she and her husband once owned and operated Hildas Pantry in Lewistown from July of 1967 until August of 1974. She retired in 1992 from Graham Hospital Dietary Department with fourteen years of service.
Funeral services will be held on Monday January 23, at 12:00 Noon at Oaks - Hines Funeral Home in Canton, Where Visitation will be held two hours before the service. The Rev. Freida Louise Braden
Lewistown- Freida Louise Braden, 84, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at her home in Lewistown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday January 25th at the Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown, the Rev. Brant Reed officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.
Freida was born in rural Camden, June 30, 1932, the daughter of Ray and Alta (Unger) Lawson.
She married James Lewis McClelland March 12, 1949, at the Christian Church in Mt. Sterling. He died Feb. 27, 1965. She married Don R. Braden on July 14, 1972. He died July 10, 2002.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, Lorena Gabbert.
Surviving are her children, David (Kay) McClelland, LeRoy; Marilyn (Keith) Aden, Avon; and Deborah (Ron) Carpenter, Lewistown. Also surviving are three stepchildren; Bill (Ruth) Braden, Lewistown, Dorothy Herriford (Don), Lewistown; Jackie (Roger), Waggoner, Elmwood.
Freida also is survived by 24 grandchildren,47 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Camden Grade and High Schools and was a member of the Camden United Methodist Church and the Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown.
While living in Camden, she was a telephone operator, a cook at Camden Grade School, and operated Camden Café for a brief time.
After moving to Lewistown in 1964, she worked several years for Weirauch Florist and Greenhouse and Day and Palin Grocery. She served first as activities director and later as administrator of Spoon River Towers. She also was a Realtor, working with her husband, Don, at Braden Real Estate.
She enjoyed quilting with women at the Christian Church and enjoyed crocheting and working picture puzzles and spending time with her family. She was particularly fond of John Wayne movies.

Connie D. Smith, 55, of Lewistown, passed away at 2:00 AM on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on May 6, 1961 in Canton, the daughter of William F. and Mary R. (O’Brien) Cumpston. She married Stephen L. Smith on July 25, 2005 in Lewistown. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Billie Timmons of Bryant; Cheryl (Jeremy) Hood of Lewistown; Christopher Harn of Canton; one step-son, Jeremy Smith of Lewistown, and two brothers, O. Keith Lillie of Portland, Oregon; William L. “Lee” Cumpston of Canton.

Canton –Nina M. Miller, 90, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

Clark Dewitt Wilson Jr.
Canton – Clark Dewitt Wilson Jr., 69, of Canton, passed away at 9:51 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 11, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Clark D. and Lorraine (Gilder) Wilson Sr. He married Linda S. (Kovachevich) on September 8, 1978 in Peoria.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years; four children, Stacy (Corey) Wise, Melissa (Shaun) Miller, Dash (LaKendra) Wilson, and Drake (Carrie) Wilson; ten grandchildren; one sister, Julia (George Delbert) Belcher of Scotts, MI; mother-in-law, Vada L. Kovachevich of Canton, IL; brother-in-law, Victor A. (Dixie) Kovachevich Jr. of Normal, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, Victor A. Kovachevich Sr.
He was raised in Peoria, IL and graduated from Manual High School in 1966. He was drafted in the Army in 1967, where he served in Vietnam as a Combat Medic with the 25th Infantry Division, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Clark worked as a laborer throughout Illinois before he was hired by the City of Canton and held several positions; he retired as a Zoning Ordinance Officer after 19 years in 2007.
Clark was a member of Moose Lodge #1571 and Hiram Walker Rod & Gun Club. He was also an avid Cardinal’s fan.
Per Clarks request there will be graveside Military Services at 2 PM on Friday, January, 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton. Following will be a Celebration of Life at 3 PM at the Canton VFW, 1200 South 5th Avenue, Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Control Systems, Motorola, ISBE, IDPH, Asbestos Professional Services in
Breese, IL, the Environmental Institute of Marietta, GA, and served as a
consultant to the USEPA in Washington, DC.
He also taught asbestos related courses both nationally and
internationally.

Donald
graduated from Ridgeley Grade School and Lanphier High School in Springfield. He then earned his Bachelors of Science from
Purdue University in 1959, his Masters from Sangamon State University (now UIS)
in 1975, and his Doctorate from SIU Carbondale in 1984. He served on the staff at Georgia tech in
Atlanta, GA as an Adjunct Professor.
Don was a member of the Central Baptist
Church in Springfield and had served on many boards and committees. He was previously a member of the Knights of
Columbus, the Elks Club, ANSAR Shrine, was a 32nd degree Mason, the
Scottish Rite Bodies, Legion of Honor, and the Firefighter’s Club. He was also
Chief of the Springfield Auxiliary Police Department when it was disbanded.

be held at a later date at Central Baptist Church in Springfield, IL

Visitation:
5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2017at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria,
IL. Additional visitation at the
Central Baptist Church at a later date.
Interment: Camp Butler national Cemetery, Springfield,
IL
Memorials: Donald and Judith Anderson Football Scholarship at Purdue University or
the Shriners
Children’s Hospital.
