Phillip D. Workman

Phillip D. Workman, age 82 of Astoria, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 19, 1943 in rural Astoria, the son of Everett and Lola Pearl (Smith) Workman. He married Vicki I. St. Dennis on March 23, 1963 in Canton, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1998.


Surviving are his two daughters, Tammy Peterman and Linda (Dickie) Fisher, seven grandchildren; Brandon (Lindsey Rohbaugh) Workman, Bradley (Savannah Nelson) Workman, Catherine (Jay Meisner) Peterman, Jeremy (Chrissy) Fisher, Matthew (Rebecca Lytle) Fisher, Amanda (Justin) Gulick and Amy (Curtis) Sprout, several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Phillip was preceded in death by three children; Valerie Lynn, Barbara Jo and Terry Allen Workman, his parents, brother Dwayne Workman and nephew Gary Workman.

He worked at the Vermont Foundry in the early 1960’s and then went to work at Caterpillar for 31 years before retiring.

Phillip was an inaugural board member of the South Fulton Water District and stayed on the board for many years. He was also a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge for 30 years.

A part time farmer who enjoyed raising cows, pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys. He enjoyed riding around on his tractors and traveling. He was always very interested in the Civil War and anything John Wayne.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service in the Astoria Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials in memory of Phillip may be given to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad and sent to Shawgo Memorial Home, PO Box 525, Astoria, IL 61501.
