Wilbur McClaughry

Wilbur Glen McClaughry, 94, of Cuba Il passed away on September 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

Wilbur was born September 10, 1929 in Augusta Il to Glen Cook and Bess Elizabeth (Louderbach) McClaughry. They proceeded him in death along with step-mother Veda Keefauver McClaughry. Wilbur married the love of his life, Harriett Ann (Munson) McClaughry. She passed on July 2, 2020 after 62 years of marriage.


Surviving are five children, Monty (Marlynna) McClaughry of Fiatt, Glenda (Ray) Postin of Lewistown, Lisa (Rod) Miller of Smithfield, Eric McClaughry (Theresa Roscetti) of Canton and Aaron McClaughry of Marshall IL. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Matt, Chase, Josh, Stacey, Brooke, Wes, Kara, Tyler, Kelly, Morgan, Ethan and Robert (Roscetti), 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, Along with several nieces and nephews.


Also proceeding Wilbur were his Sister Margorie Wilson and brother Robert Lauderbach. Also, Grandson Robert Jacob McClaughry and sisters-in-laws Esther Lovell and Susi Munson.


Wilbur graduated from Cuba High School in 1947. He served in the US Air Force 1951 -1954 during the Korean Conflict. After returning from the military, Wilbur worked at Little Sister, Truax/Consol Coal Mines and AMAX Coal Company, where he was Chief Electrician at Sun Spot Mine, Vermont, IL and Chinook Mine in Brazil Indiana and retiring from Meadowlark Farms, Vermont, IL the Farming Division of AMAX Coal Company. Wilbur and Harriett also owned an operated the Flower Station, located next to their home in Cuba, for 19 years.

Wilbur was a 74 year member of the Illinois Independent Order of Odd Fellows and 70 year member of the Rebekah’s of Illinois. Wilbur served as Putman Township Clerk for 29 years and was a member of the Cuba Christian Church where he served as Deacon, and Elder and was awarded Elder Emeritus.


Wilbur was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed watching all sports especially when his kids and grandchildren were playing. He also enjoyed watching western movies and shows, especially John Wayne (the Duke). Wilbur was proud to coach the Cuba Q-B-Ettes undefeated season in the early 70’s. Wilbur immensely enjoyed being married to his loving wife Harriett (Henry) as he called her, and his family and many friends.


He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge, Cuba American Legion, former Cuba Lions Club and served as Assistant Chief of the Cuba Fire Department. Wilbur was instrumental in establishing the Cuba High School Alumni Scholarship and Cuba Food Pantry. Wilbur was awarded the CHS Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Merit Award.


Services will be held at 10 am Monday September 9, 2024 at the Cuba Christian Church with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5-7 pm at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba where an Odd Fellows service will be held at 4:45 pm. Burial will be in Fiatt Cemetery immediately following the funeral service with military rites accorded by the US Air Force and the Cuba American Legion.
