Susie McMillen, 77, of Wee-Ma-Tuk, passed away at 12:11 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Graham Hospital in Canton. She was born on April 9, 1945 in Canton, a daughter of Burnett “Buck” and Mary (Fierce) Tompkins Stutsman. She married Randy McMillen on December 24, 1978 in Canton. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Tad (Sandy) Sandefur of Canton; Tony (Michaeline) Sandefur of Pennsylvania; Kevin (Stephanie) Rhodes of Canton; Jamie (Amy Dilts) Rhodes of San Diego, California; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Marion) Tompkins, Denny (Linda) Tompkins, one sister, Jody (late Bill) McCamey, and several step brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-father, Peter Stutsman.
Susie graduated from Canton High School and later from Spoon River College with an Associates Degree. She started work through the Caterpillar Co-op training program at Mapleton Foundry. She later started her career of 39 years in the Real Estate business, being Co-owner with her husband Randy, doing business as McMillen and Wife Realty and Auction Service in Canton, and later with Re-Max/Traders Unlimited in Peoria. She served on many state and local Real Estate Boards and Committees, board member of Fulton-Mason crisis center, YWCA, and the Spoon River College Foundation, where she also sang with the Spoon River College Choir. She was a member, lay servant of ministry, and sang with the choir, and served on many committees at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton. Susie dedicated some of her time with Cursillo Prison Ministry, she was very active in growing the Girls and Boys State program, and was the Canton Homecoming Queen in 1963.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 120 North Ave A, Canton. Rev. Dr. Shalom Renner will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 North Main Street, Canton. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, following services on Monday.
