Michele Baker, 54, of Tallula, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born November 6, 1967, the daughter of Robert F. and Judith E. Whittenberg in Ottawa, Illinois.
Michele was a member of the United Methodist Church in Petersburg, Illinois. She liked to take trips and just have a lot of fun. She was a best friend to many people. She was a Music Boosters President at PORTA for two years and started a scholarship fund for the program. She was part of an informal sisterhood who were all about having fun that called themselves the Ya-Ya’s.
Michele is survived by her mother, Judy; two children, Katie (fiancé Devonte Cochrane) Ellingson of Petersburg and Ben Baker of Tallula; grandchildren, Aiden, Christian and Ava Ellingson; siblings, Joseph R. Whittenberg, Charles L. (Debbie) Whittenberg, Robbie Merritt and Karen Armstrong; Ken Baker; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 10 am to 12 pm at the United Methodist Church of Petersburg, 221 W. Jackson St, Petersburg, Illinois 62675. The memorial service will follow with Pastor Rick Pierce officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michele’s family to set up a college fund for her grandchildren or The Jimmy V Foundation which funds research for all types of cancer, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, North Carolina 27513.
