Wilma I. Shipley, 87, of Brimfield, passed away at 10:12 p.m., on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL.She was born October 24, 1934, in Oak Hill, IL, to Harry and Sena (Behrends) Peters. She married Robert Shipley on June 5, 1955, in Brimfield. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2010.
She is survived by two children, David (Cathy) Shipley of Yates City, and Barbara Shipley of Brimfield; three brothers, Henry Peters, Everett Peters, and Ralph Peters; five grandchildren, Melissa (Tom) Jacobus, Mindy (Josh) Bruner, Molly (Seth) Gilles, Micalena (Tyler) Armstrong, and Jennifer (Rusty) Craig; and twelve great-grandchildren and one-on-the-way.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; one child, Stephen Shipley; two brothers, Harry Jr. Peters and Heye Peters; five sisters, Carrie Hanlon, Henrietta Asbel, Violet Binder, Reaka Schmitt, and Hilda Stretch; and one grandson, Stephen Shipley (Allen).
Wilma sold Avon for several years. She also worked at Casey's General Store in Brimfield for 23 years. She was involved with the Brimfield Auxillary Legion #452 as well as donated her time to helping veterans. She was also a member of the Historical Society Club in Brimfield and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Brimfield.
Wilma knew no stranger and had a heart of gold. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Elmwood. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Brimfield Township Cemetery.
