Thelma M. McGinnis

Thelma M. McGinnis, 87, of Canton, passed away at 2:29 PM on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on August 21, 1934 in Bushnell, IL to Lewis and Mariam (Melvin) James. She married Howard D. McGinnis on December 29, 1951 in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2013.

Thelma is also preceded in death by her parents; two children, Connie Ripley and James Allen McGinnis; one grandson, Howard Henn; one brother, Robert James; and one sister, Beverly Lemaster.

She is survived by three children, Carolyn McGinnis of Arkansas, Charlotte (Ron) Henn of Arkansas, and Sandy (Lendel) Walters of Canton, IL; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Thelma was a member of the Harvard Hills Baptist Church in Washington, IL. She loved her family, kids, and grandkids. She enjoyed crochet, ceramics, and cooking. She was known for her great sense of humor.

Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM the same day. Lisa Cato-Crider will officiate. Burial will follow at Walnut Cemetery in Banner, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
