Kent J. Nelson

Kent, J. Nelson, 72, of Macomb, IL, passed away at 12:25 am on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Macomb Post Acute Care Center. He was born on December 20, 1949 in Macomb, the son of John Wade and Patricia J. (Johnson) Nelson.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Nelson of Vermont, IL, brother, Edward Nelson of Glasford, IL, sister, Maryann (and Bill) Swain of Reidsville, GA, 4 nieces and nephews, Joel Nelson, John (and Samantha) Nelson, Matthew (and Katherine) Swain and Mindy (and Josh) Griffis, 9 great-nieces and nephews, Cole Nelson, Clayton Nelson, Delaney Nelson, Ruth Griffis, David Griffis, Nathan Griffis, Abigail Griffis, Micah Swain and Harvey Swain.

He is preceded in death by his father, John.

Kent worked as a Groundskeeper for the University of Illinois Athletic Department.

He was a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf, duck hunting and even hunted in Venezuela, and going to tractor shows.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on February 21, 2022 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Pastor Cody Stinnett will be officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service on February 21. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vermont Masonic Lodge.
