Samuel Rogers
Canton- Samuel Rogers, 93, of Canton, passed away at 9:30 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on April 15, 1925 in Pershing, Iowa, a son of Thomas and Mildred (Nappin) Rogers. He married Norma Lea Allen on June 5, 1949 in Knoxville, Illinois, she preceded him in death on April 25, 2015 in Canton.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Eugene, Thomas, Walton, and two sisters, Pauline and Mildred Dozard.
Surviving are his children, Tim (Laynah) Rogers of Rogersville, Missouri; Sam (Connie) Rogers of Galesburg; Sally (late Randy) Strode of Canton; seven grandchildren, Rebekah Ferguson, Tim Rogers, Shelly White, Sammi Durdle, Michael Rogers, Erica McCombs, Brian Strode; 12 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Dorothy Raey, of East Peoria.
He worked for Sherex Chemical Company in Mapleton for 20 years, retiring in 1987. He attended Evangelical Free Church in Canton for several years, and was a member of the Mohammed Shriners, where he volunteered his time driving the children. He was an Avid Chicago Cubs Fan, and he served his country as a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II.
A Celebration of life service will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 Pm on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Evangelical Free Church in Canton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Farmington following the services. Memorial can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
