Melinda D Fagan


Melinda D Fagan (Melton) of Dardenne Prairie Missouri, age 74, passed away at her home surrounded by family on July 14, 2018.   She was born in Mexico Mo. on December 13, 1943 the daughter of Lowell and Hazel (Brown) Shepard Melton.  She was married to Kenneth Jr. Fagan on Aug 1, 1964 in Hull, IL.

Melinda taught science for 30 years in public education in Illinois and 9 additional years in Missouri and Kansas.   During her time teaching at Barry High School, she also taught courses for John Wood Community College and, while teaching in Missouri, also taught at Moberly Area College. Mrs. Fagan loved teaching science, working with students in class and sponsoring their science fair projects.   She was a frequent presenter at teaching conferences, recipient of numerous awards in science education and was proud to be recognized as a student sponsor with regional, state and international science fair award winners.  She earned her Undergraduate Degree in Biology at Quincy University as well as Graduate Degrees in Biology at Truman State University and Chemistry Education from Quincy University.   After retiring, she continued her passion for teaching, voluntarily coordinating a jewelry making class in St. Charles, Mo.  She continued to enjoy traveling, couponing, yard sales and dining out with friends and family.

Melinda enjoyed being with her family.   She follows her husband and parents in death. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Kennan D. Fagan (Lisa) of Troy, IL., Kevin D. Fagan (Angela) of Mt. Sterling IL., Kimberly S. Bogue (Jody) of Hannibal, Mo., seven grandchildren Kenna, Cameron and Connor Bogue, Alec and Caleb Fagan, Ethan and Skyler Fagan; sister Nancy Koertge (Walt) of Olney IL; Cousins Chris Stewart and Brenda McCay. Nephew Brent Koertge and Niece Shelli Wright.

A visitation will be held in Barry, Illinois on Friday, July 20th, 2018 from 5-8pm Friday at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL.

A family visitation will start at 2 pm and funeral services will be held at 3pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL on Saturday, July 21st, 2018.  Pastor Aaron Foster will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mercy Virtual Care Center in care of Mercy Health Foundation or to the Jewelry Crafters Connection in care of Ann Womack.
