Lewistown- Mildred L. Owings, 89, of Du Quoin, IL; and formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 12:35 AM Saturday October 7, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, IL.
She was born July 23, 1928 at Canton, the daughter of Daniel and Vera (Smith) Perkins. She married Ray B. Owings on May 14, 1956 at Havana. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Philip Hopping and Danny Owings, and one grandson, Bradley Owings. Survivors include two children, Brian (Shawna) Owings of Du Quoin, IL; and Diana (Ed) Emig of Lewistown, five grandchildren, Erica White, Richie Owings, Stacie Dunihoo, Savana Casey, and Nicole Perrin, and eight great grandchildren, Jackson White, Campbell White, Reagan White, Alizabeth Owings, Alivia Owings, Parker Casey, Tessa Casey, and Kolton Perrin.
Mildred was a Lewistown High School graduate Class of 1945. She worked as a bookkeeper at the former Black Chevrolet Dealership in Lewistown, and also as a bookkeeper at a car dealership in southern Illinois.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Penny Frame officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s.
