Fairview – Maxine E. Hartstirn, 97, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Red Oak Memory Care in Canton.
She was born on October 29, 1919, in Fiatt to Floyd and Ruby (Doughtery) Tompkins. They preceded her in death.
She married Robert F. Hartstirn on August 18, 1940 in Fairview. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2002.
Also preceding her in death are two sons, Robert A. Hartstirn and Albert “Skip” Hartstirn, son-in-law, George Kreider, brothers, Harold, Hobart and infant brother, Meredith and sister Valeria Sheets.
Surviving are her children, Sharron Kreider of Ashkum, IL, JoAnn (David) Andersen of South Holland, IL, Randy (Vicki) Hartstirn of Canton, daughter-in-law, Karen Hartstirn of Pinckneyville, fourteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine was a past member of the Fairview Reformed Church and currently a member of Fiatt Independent Christian Church. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Fairview Chapter #99, Fairview Women’s Club and Gideon’s International.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, from 5-8 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service at 10 am, on Friday, October 20, 2017, at the Fiatt Independent Christian Church.
Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fiatt Independent Christian Church or to Spoon River Valley Educational Foundation.
