Jean H. Downs
Cuba – Jean H. Downs of Cuba passed away at 1:19 p.m., on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Graham Hospital in Canton. She was born on December 28, 1926, in Pekin, to Ralph and Ethel (Peterson) Hensley. Jean married George Downs on June 3, 1945, in Canton. He preceded her in death in May 1978.
Jean is survived by three children, Dan (Ginny) Downs of Washburn, Marty (Patti) Downs of Lewistown, and Angie (Downs) Taylor of Canton; four grandchildren, Chris (Kerri) Downs, Brian (Jennifer) Downs, Anna Taylor and Nicholas Taylor; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Fanning.
Jean owned the Gamble’s Store with her husband, George, in Cuba for 25 years. She also taught at FCRC (Fulton County Rehabilitation Center) for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Canton and a past member of the Sweet Adeline’s and the Cuba Women’s Club. She also enjoyed playing bingo, piano, flea marketing, and attending the Spoon River Drive where she and her sister set up their own antique booth.
Services will be 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church. A burial will follow the service at Cuba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Canton, the Fulton County Human Society, and the Fulton County Rehabilitation Center.
