Virgil W. Burget, 88, from Lewistown, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 1:20 am on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on September 6, 1928 in Sherman Township, Mason County, IL, the son of Robert and Laura (Landwer) Burget.
Virgil married Melba Jean Ogden on August 20, 1949 in Wickliffe, KY. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2017.
Also preceding him in death is his son, Stewart Burget, daughter, Sherry Wells, grandson, James Cannon, 2 great-granddaughters, Samantha and Reese Carithers and his infant sister.
Survivors include his 5 sons, Steven (and Pam) Burget of Astoria, Stanley (and Sandy) Burget of Lewistown, Scott (and Teresa) Burget of Rushville, Sheldon (and Brenda) Burget of Lewistown, and Shelby Burget of Astoria, daughter, Sharon (and Steve) Musson of Astoria, son-in-law, Robert Wells of Canton, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and his sister, Beulah Williams of Easton.
Virgil was a longtime truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, taking walks, putting puzzles together and polishing stones.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria.
