Betty L. Brown
Betty L. Brown, age 94 of Peoria, IL, formerly of Chillicothe, passed away at 7:34 pm on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Skyline Nursing Center in Peoria. She was born on March 26, 1923 on the family farm in Astoria, the daughter of Harve S. and Edna Mary (Gruber) Ruth. On March 17, 1946, Betty married Phillip Brown in Astoria, IL. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1989.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Wanda L. Fouts and Iona Maxine Smith.
Surviving are two sons, Gregory Allen (and Beth) Brown of Dunlap, IL and David Phillip (and Kathy) Brown of St. Louis, MO, five grandchildren; Erick (and Jaime) Brown of Philadelphia, PA, Allison (and Doug) Lewis of Indianapolis, IN, Neil Brown of Chicago, IL, Andrew (and Jamie) Brown of St. Louis, MO, and Alexander Brown of St. Louis, MO, and her step-sister Betty Lee Rhoades of Dekalb, IL.
Betty was a 1942 graduate pif Dekalb High School. She worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 9 years and was school secretary at Rome Grade School, in Rome, IL, for 16 years.
She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria, IL
Betty loved spending time with her family. She also loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and many state capitals.
She enjoyed birdwatching, wildlife, and being outdoors tending her vegetable and flower gardens.
Betty was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Pastor Ted Benson will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 am, prior to the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Skyline Nursing Center, 7023 N. E. Skyline Drive, Peoria, IL 61614.
Betty's family wished to extend their gratitude to all the staff of Apostolic Christian Skyline Nursing Center who provided loving christian care and treated her like family.
