Lela Catherine Barrick


Cuba- Lela Catherine Barrick, 93, formerly of Cuba, passed away at 8:13 AM Monday January 11, 2016 at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

She was born May 24, 1922 at Breeds, the daughter of Charles Ervin and Dollie (Hezlep) Quick. She married Harold L. Barrick on March 5, 1946 at Cuba. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Lola Ruth Drummond, one brother, Dean Quick, two daughters in law, Pamela (Braundmeier) Barrick, and Judy (Cooper) Barrick, and one son in law, Arthur Knowles III. Survivors include seven children, Carolyn Churchill of Canton, H. Gordon (Gloria) Barrick of Washington, IL; Kenneth (Anna) Barrick of Cuba, Martha (Jerry) Danielson of Canton, Ronald (Sharon) Barrick of Schaumburg, IL; Bruce Barrick of Cuba, and Mary Elaine Wilcoxen of Peoria. She is also survives by 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, two sisters in law, Mary (Barrick) Woods of Macomb, and Mae (Barrick) Hoskins of Georgetown, KY; one brother in law, Reverend Glendon (Loretta) Stroud of Trafalgar, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Lela graduated from Bryant and Lewistown High School in 1940. She was a member of the Cuba Church of the Nazarene where she served her church by participating in mission projects. She was very active in helping to pack the Crisis Care Kits sent by her church to areas suffering from disasters. She made over 500 clothing protectors for the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb where her mother in law, Edith (Simpson) Barrick, was a resident for several years. She also made over 100 Christmas Stockings that were packed for soldiers overseas.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she especially loved having her grandchildren and great grandchildren visit. It was a joy to her that they loved to play games, be read to, and as they grew older, help put puzzles together.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at the Cuba Church of the Nazarene, with Reverend H. Gordon Barrick officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery at rural Ellisville.
