Canton – Carole M. Henderson, 84,
of Canton died at 1:07 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at his residence.
He was born November 7, 1931, in
Canton to Virgil and Edith (Spahn) Henderson.
He married Anna L. Jenkins on July 11, 1954, in Morganfield, KY. She survives.
Also surviving are six children,
Margaret Ingles of Roundrock, TX, Carole “Sonny” (Vine) Henderson of
Chillicothe, Debbie Henderson of Peoria, Ron (Glenda) Henderson of Bartonville,
Rick (Amy) Henderson of Pekin, and Laurie Henderson of Peoria; one brother,
Tyrone (Kathy) Henderson of IA; nineteen grandchildren and many
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers, Clifford and Gerald Henderson; and two sisters, Chloe
and Charmaine Henderson.
Carole was a veteran of the United
States Army where he served as a Rakkassan Paratrooper during the Korean
War. He was honored to participate in
the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in 2015.
Carole worked for Keystone Steel & Wire Co. for 40 years, and
retired in 1997. Following his retirement
he kept busy driving for local car dealerships, running his landscape business,
and keeping up with his grandchildren.
An avid motorcycle rider, Carole
was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association and logged over 1.5 million
miles throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He also enjoyed participating in the
Association’s charity work. He was a
member of First Baptist Church in Canton.
Funeral services will be held at
2 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where
visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Military rites will be conducted at the
funeral home immediately following services.
Cremation rites will follow services, with burial of ashes at Greenwood
Cemetery in Canton at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the
Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
