Vernon D. Heye, 91, of Bath, passed away at his home at 11:53 a.m., on Thursday, September 29, 2022. He was born June 26, 1931, in Bath, Illinois, to Harold F. and Clara (Bishop) Heye. He married Sylvia Earhart on June 17, 1951, in Bath. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2020.
Mr. Heye is survived by two sons: Dale (Dana) Heye, of Bath, and Donald Heye, of Havana; three grandchildren: Zachary Heye, Allie (Taylor) Walker, and Morgan (Justin) Friedrich; as well as three great-grandchildren: Maddilyn Heye, Brooks Walker and Hayes Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosalyn (George) Conway.
Mr. Heye served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer in Mason County for his whole life. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, near Bath. He enjoyed polka dancing with his wife. As his children grew up, he rarely missed a baseball or basketball game.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the services. Rev. Brian Lesemann will officiate.
Burial will follow the services at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
