Sandra L. Haney of Ipava, Illinois left this world to be with our heavenly Father at 6:04 am on Wednesday, October 5 2022 at Nesbit Living and Recovery Center In Seguin, Texas. She was the only child of Glenn and Lena (Onion) Hammond, born May 21, 1937. She married Frank L. Haney on Sept 14, 1956.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2005 and her son Dale F. Haney.
She is survived by her son Dean (and Cynthia) Haney of Kyle, Texas, grandchildren Zachary and Emily, step-daughter Mary (Haney) (and Bob) BonDurant of Divernon, Illinois, step-son Carl (and Shawn) Haney of Normal, Illinois and grandchildren Camden, Calvin, Felix and Ethan.
Sandra played clarinet in High School band and worked in VIT school administration for a short period after graduation. Upon her marriage to Frank, she concentrated on being mother to her sons as well as the many duties of a farmer’s wife. She was an active, caring member of the Ipava Christian Church for many years. She led Sunday School worship as well as helping to lead a local chapter of 4-H club.
Becoming a single mother in the late 1960’s, she sold Avon cosmetics as well as owning and managing the Main St. Sundries in Ipava during the early 70s. She would take a job with Mohr Value in Macomb which would transition to Walmart. She worked at Walmart in Macomb for over 25 years becoming an Office Trainer and Invoice Office Manager. Upon her retirement from Walmart, she moved to Texas in 2004 to be closer to “her boys”.
Sandra leaves her family and community darker without her smile and laugh. The porch and yard of her home in Ipava was a gathering place for many of the kids in the neighborhood. Her porch was the place of many happy conversations with lots of laughter. She was quick to help and lend ear to listen. She often enjoyed a good cup of black coffee with a friend. We will miss you Mom.
Visitation will be held at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria Illinois from 6-8 pm on Thursday evening October 13, 2022. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 14th at Shawgo Memorial Home at 11 am. Pastor Kevin Kessler will officiate. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ipava Fire and Rescue Squad or Alzheimers
