Verlin J. Miles

Ipava- Verlin James Miles, 90, passed away at 4:29 PM Sunday December 26, 2021 at Graham Hospital emergency room in Canton.


He was born September 2, 1931 at Lewistown the son of Willis P. and Lola M. (White) Miles. He was preceded in death by four spouses. He was also preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers, one half-brother, one half-sister, a step-son, Kenny Howell, and several nieces and nephews. He married Delores Rueger Howell on July 13, 2002 at Manito. She survives. Also surviving are two step children, David Howell of Ipava, and Jaime (Kevin) Duane of Davenport, IA; five step grandchildren, Elizabeth Howell, Katie Duane, Sydney Duane, Emme Howell, and Addi Howell, and two step great grandchildren, Chaz Pratt, and Hadassah Pace.

Jim was a piano tuner. He was a member of the Berean Christian Church of rural Ipava, and a former member of Manito First Baptist Church, and the former Free Methodist Church of Lewistown. Jim loved to play music on the piano and guitar. He enjoyed singing and would visit nursing homes along with his wife to play and sing for the residents. Jim would speak at local churches if they were without a pastor. He enjoyed woodworking and his favorite color was red. Jim made cassette tapes of singing and messages and would send them to the Circle of Love where they would be exchanged for others to hear. Delores and Jim enjoyed traveling and a highlight of their travels was a camp for the blind in Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Following the committal at Oak Hill there will be a meal and a celebration of life at the Berean Christian Church 10750 N. Co.
