Roger E. Zerwer, 85, of Canton, IL, passed away at 3:29 a.m., on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at his residence following a lengthy illness. With him at his passing, was his sister, Mary Jo (Zerwer) Overbeck, of Cincinnati, OH.Roger was born in Chicago, IL, on October 19, 1936, to George and Josephine (Neville) Zerwer. He and his former wife had no children. His parents and his older brother, Ramon Zerwer, predeceased him.
Roger graduated from Spalding High School in Peoria and the DeVry Institute in Chicago. He enlisted in the United States Navy out of high school and served as a Medical Corpsman with the United States Marine Corps in Lebanon.
As a young man, Roger took a solo canoe trip from Chicago down the Illinois and Mississippi rivers to New Orleans. The trip was preceded by a teenage motorcycle trip from Florida to Canton.
Roger lived for several years in Las Vegas, NV, where he worked for the casino industry as a gaming machine technician. He also lived in the Northwest United States.
He was an avid fisherman and also created Amish-style furniture.
Roger was cremated at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. At his request, there were no services. A gathering may be planned in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger's name to the Canton, IL, Police Department.
