Canton - Gregory A. Campbell, 75, of Canton, passed away at 1:28 pm, Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on December 1, 1946 in Canton to Richard F. and Barbara J. (Murphy) Campbell. Greg is survived by the love of his life, Margaret Binder, whom he married on March 19, 1971 in Canton. Also surviving are three children, Lee (Stephanie) Campbell, Ryan (Jan Jacobus) Campbell, and Megan (Eric) Callison and his beloved grandchildren Gage (Chelsea) Campbell, Mason Campbell, Blair Jacobus and one great-granddaughter Kali Campbell. He is also survived by his younger brother Doug (Kim) Campbell and nephews Seth (Elizabeth) Campbell and Colin (Cailin) Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Greg has finally found peace and is able to rest after a battle with cancer. He was a proud veteran, who served in the Army in Vietnam. He was a former painter early on, then worked on loading barges on the Illinois River, worked at several different coal mines, then began working for electric cooperatives. He started his cooperative career in Florida and then was able to transition back to Canton to be closer to family. He became the CEO of Spoon River Electric, where his mother had worked some years earlier. Greg was an avid outdoorsman, and loved playing golf and trapshooting whenever the opportunity would arise. He also had a deep love for anything involving automobiles, and was happy to talk about cars or horsepower with anyone who was interested. No matter what was going on around the world, his focus was always on family. Nothing would ever come between him and family.Services will be 11 am Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where visitation will be one prior to services.
