Robert Ems
Robert Ems, 89, of Naperville, formerly of Canton, IL,
joined his beloved wife, Jeanne, in heaven on June 18. Bob was born in
Fisher, IL on June 19, 1931 to Clarence and Florence (McElwee) Ems.
Bob married Jeanne Gossard on June 7, 1952. Surviving are two children,
Randy (Amy) of Yorkville and Lizabeth "Dee" Watson of Canton, MS,
brother, Richard "Dick" Ems of Newton Square, PA, five grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.
Growing up in the very small town of
Fisher, Bob Ems was a quiet kid who loved the outdoors. Pheasant hunting
and fishing took up a lot of his time. He also was an active young man
who learned to love any kind of sport. He took this interest in sport
seriously and developed into a fine athlete. So good in fact that he
went on to Southern, IL University in Carbondale to become an MVP and
captain in both baseball and football. He became the first football
player from SIU to be drafted in the NFL by the Chicago Cardinals.
Bob was a tremendously gifted natural athlete but he had a greater
passion than sports. That was the amazing girl next door from Fisher,
Jeanne Gossard. They were married July 7, 1952 while Bob was attending
classes, playing sports and taking some time to serve in The Korean
Conflict before coming back and graduating from SIU and the University
of Illinois for his masters.
After a quick stint as an assistant
park director in Fairfield, IL Bob and Jeanne and newly born daughter
Dee, and 2 year old, Randy, moved to Canton. They never looked back.
Bob went right to work in his new hometown of Canton. He got off to a
quick start by persuading Consolidated Coal Company to donate 113 acres
of land for the development of what was to become Ingersoll Airport in
the 1960's. Canton remains one of the few towns of its size to have its
own airport.
In the 1970's, the coal company agreed to donate
another 448 acres to create Lakeland Park with Bob's encouragement.
Lakeland Park was born and developed into a center for community
recreation, activity and reflection. The park district received a
national award for originality and uniqueness of design.
Bob wasn't
done yet and after retiring and nearing age 80 he had a vision to
create The Veteran's Memorial at Lakeland Park. It is his finest legacy
he leaves to the people of Canton.
Bob was a tough man with tons of
talent and vision. He deeply cared about his children, his community,
his family and his church. He was one of a kind and will be missed but
never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at Wesley United
Methodist in Canton on Wednesday, June 30. Visitation will begin at 10,
service at 11:15 and food and fellowship to follow. Memorials can be
made to Wesley United Methodist or the Canton Park District Foundation
for The Veteran's Memorial. Online condolences can made at www.oakshinesfuneralhome.com

Many nieces and a nephew will miss their uncle Jesse dearly (Alissa, Abby, & Lily Vick, Hendrix and Brexton Hess, and Rosalie Stone).
Jesse was engaged to the love of his life, Lori Stone Foust and he loved her children, Keith Foust and Aubrey Varnes (recently married) as his own.
As an animal lover, Jesse cherished his dogs Blue and Winnie. He loved fishing, nature, cooking out, bonfires, fireworks, playing pool and singing karaoke, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was private and quiet in the public eye but had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. His kindness and compassion were known by everyone he came in contact with.
Jesse wished to be cremated and no formal memorial will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please subscribe to his online obituary to receive updates.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any condolences and/or donations be made to his parents (Pam and Kenny Taylor of Calhoun GA.) or to his surviving fiancé of over 15 years (Lori Foust). Most of all, we would appreciate your prayers as we grieve this loss.

Robert (Joe) Joseph Musson
Robert (Joe) Joseph Musson passed away Sunday, June 13 in Effingham from
a heart attack. He was born June 15, 1980 in Des Moines, Iowa to Bobby
and Jeri Musson.
Joe is survived by his parents Bobby and Jeri Musson, two sisters Nicole
(and Matt) Westcott of Rushville and Jessie (and Wes) Wendte of
Altamont; four aunts Paula Musson of Astoria; Jody (and John) McWhorter
of St. Elmo; Jackie Smith (and TW Hern) of Arlington, Texas; Angie (and
Buck) Merrill of St. Elmo and one uncle Steve (and Sharon) Musson of
Astoria; two nieces Ady and Serenity Wendte of St. Elmo and four nephews
Maddox Westcott of Rushville and Brysen, Greyson and Beau Waylon Wendte
of Altamont, step-great-grandfather, Wayne Conners of St. Elmo, IL and
several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Lorene Spain and
Dellas Spain; paternal grandparents Jess Robert and Violet Musson; one
uncle Jon (and Debra) Spain, and step-great-grandmother, Joan Conners.
Joe was a 1998 graduate of Astoria High School where he enjoyed playing
football and excelled in Art. Later he became part of a semi-pro
football league in Indiana called the Morgan County Broncos with his
uncle Jon Spain helping coach. They were division champions in 2000.
Joe was a big guy with a big heart. He was always a kid and always the
kids' favorite playmate and they all called him Joe Joe. He was silly
and embarrassing at times. At family gatherings you'd usually find him
wrestling, wrangling and giving horsey rides to all the kids. He loved
old school video games, drawing, cooking and making people laugh. He
also enjoyed spending time with his Astoria cousins (and their children)
Melissa Musson, Stephanie (and Wes) Carithers and Courtney (and Braden)
Wherley at family gatherings and leftovers.
Joe spent most of his life fighting depression and a drug addiction and
unable to love those around him without pushing them away. In February,
when his newest nephew was born and his littlest sister was very ill he
told himself he was tired of living life as an addict and he had
something to live for. He wanted to make memories with his nieces and
nephews. In May, he went to spend the summer with Jessie, her husband
Wes and their children on their farm in rural Altamont. From the moment
he learned that he had been welcomed to come visit - he talked about
nothing else night and day. He was grateful for life and the
opportunities that welcomed him. He spent his summer making memories
with not only Jessie's kids but his cousin Trever (and his family)
fishing and camping. He was happy, his heart was full and he was finally
able to accept the love from his family they'd waited a long time to
give. He shared some of these thoughts with his best friend Dustin Cox-
who loved him like a brother his whole life. A great weight was lifted
from Joe's soul and he went to heaven clean from the substances that
took so much from him. He also left memories his nieces and nephews
will likely never forget.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 19th and noon at Shawgo
Funeral Home in Astoria. A short visitation will precede at 11 am.
Family and friends will gather at the Astoria Christian Church following
services.
