Richard David Stambaugh
Richard David Stambaugh, age 84 of Astoria, IL, passed away at 6:00 am on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at his home. He was born on March 19, 1933 in Astoria Township, the son of Freeman and Mary (Trone) Stambaugh. On July 11, 1954, Richard married Jeannette B. Norton in Beardstown, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his five daughters; Mary (and Johnny) Groves of Astoria, Peggy McCombs of Astoria, Rhonda (and John) Hunter of Browning, IL, Denise (and fiancé' Chad Mertens) Stambaugh of Macomb, IL, and Angela (and Harry) Waugh of Monmouth, IL, his five sons; Ricky (and Michelle) Stambaugh of Rushville, IL, Ronald Stambaugh of Astoria, David (and Carolyn) Stambaugh of Beardstown, IL, James Stambaugh of Galesburg, IL, and Daniel (and Tracy) Stambaugh of Augusta, IL, 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, his sister, Verna (and Dorvan) McCormick and his brother Paul (and Carol) Stambaugh, both of Astoria, IL.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Emanuel and Samuel Waugh and his son-in-law Jim McCombs.
Richard was a dedicated and hard working farmer, both grain and livestock. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, ginseng, and raccoons.
He enjoyed sports of all types and was a Los Angeles Raiders fan. He enjoyed making homemade ice cream, BBQ chicken, and eating pond raised catfish.
Richard loved his animals and enjoyed playing with his cats and dog. He also had a great love for his family.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 26th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Matt Haberman will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be given to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
