Canton – James Robert “Bob” Hammond, 90, of Canton, passed away at 9:40 pm Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born on September 17, 1926 in Canton to Charles B. and Laura M. (Bohannon) Hammond. Bob married Gina Toigo on June 28, 1947 in Canton. She survives along with three children; Laura M. (Mark) Taylor of Canton, Charles B. (Stephanie) Hammond of Canton, and Paul A. (Julie) Hammond of Peoria, a brother Charles B. Hammond of Key West, FL, a sister Janet L. (David) Chambers of Macomb, eight grandchildren, Gina (Kevin) Riley, Megan (Tim) Heine, Sarah (Jay) Hopwood, Christina (Jeffery) Minnish, Lana Hammond, Maggie Hammond, Derek Hammond and Chet Hammond and twelve greatgrandchildren.
Bob was the Superintendent of Manufacturing at International Harvester Company for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He was a life member of American Legion Post #16 in Canton and served in the Navy during WWII.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Canton.
There will be no services per his wishes.
