Canton – Merl E. Pettet Jr., 85, of Canton passed away at 8:10 pm Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence. He was born on February 19, 1931 in Canton to Merl E. and Rachel (Carnes) Pettet Sr. Merl is survived by 3 children; Paul J. Pettet Sr. of Philadelphia, PA, Robert Brian Pettet of Lafayette Hills, PA, and Lorri Beth Pettet-Wilson of Canton, sister Kay Suydam of Canton, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and daughter Halen Marie Pettet.
Merl worked as a machinist for the city of Philadelphia and later drove a bus for the Illini Bluffs school district. He was a member of the Canton Masonic Lodge AF & AM and a Shriner. Merl was a Navy veteran.
Services will be 1 pm Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where visitation will be from 11am-1 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. There will be a burial of ashes in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be made to the family c/o of Triumph Bank in Canton.
