George Lester Newcomb

George Lester Newcomb, 89 passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1926, the son of Charles & Sylvia (Mahr) Newcomb, in Middle Grove, IL.  He was drafted into the US Navy at the age of 16 and served his country in Guam and the Pacific Rim during World War II.  After graduating from Iowa State University, he farmed and worked construction in Ellisville IL.  In 2000, he retired to Columbia MO.

On September 12, 1952, he married Doris Doubet.  She survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Jo Britt-Rankin and her husband, Bobby Rankin.  Four grandchildren Katlyn Garrett, Kris Rankin, Katryna (Forrest) Sardis and Kassie Rankin.  Also great-grandson Bryan Sardis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. 

A visitation will be Saturday, March 12 from 2-4pm at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington IL. With a celebration of life immediately following at 4pm. Burial of ashes will follow the service at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, IL. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to The Food Bank of Central & Northeast Missouri or the University of Missouri Human Environmental Sciences Extension.
