Canton – Jack A. Dowell, 76, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Canton, died on March 6, 2015 in Lakeland, FL.
He was born in Banner on August 22, 1938 to Merle E. and Bertie E. (Probyn) Dowell.
Surviving are three children Kim of Canton, Kelley of Canton and Troy (Taunya) of Morton, four grandchildren Eddie, Tatum, Tenley and Tavia, four siblings John (Bonnie) Dowell of Pekin, Merle “Junior” (Darlene) Dowell of Canton, Marjorie (John “Tike”) Sawyer of Urbana, OH and Vicki (Steve) Warren of Canton.
His parents preceded him in death.
Jack was a graduate of Canton High School, where he played basketball and baseball, attended Canton Community College where he also played basketball, and went on to Bradley University, from where he graduated and also played baseball.. He worked for many years at International Harvester Co. in Canton and had worked for several years for Eaton Corp. in Lincoln. Upon retirement, he moved to Florida, becoming an avid golfer.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Friday, March 20 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Private burial will be at Walnut Cemetery near Banner.
Memorials may be made to the Canton Girls Traveling Basketball Program.
