St David - Robert L. Chasteen Sr, 85, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2022 at OSF St Francis in Peoria surrounded by his family.He was born on January 21, 1937 in Vermont, Il to Lawrence and Ila (Pennell) Chasteen.
He married the love of his life. Beverly Widger on July 27, 1956. She preceded him in death on November 19, 1982.
Surviving are his children, Robert (Debra) Chasteen Jr of Lewistown, Kelly (Blair) Mason of Lewistown, Marty (Paula) Chasteen of Lewistown, Clinton (Melissa) Chasteen of Fordland, MO, Chad (Brandy) Chasteen of Lewistown, grandchild, Beau Chasteen of Lewistown, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and his "Little Bear".
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Valerie Thompson, two brothers, Laurel "Pinky" Chasteen, Wayne Chasteen and two sisters, Virginia Gallien, Wilma Shank and his second wife Carolyn Ruffeto Burgess and her children, Dixie (Curtis) Malott and Dennis Burgess.
Robert retired from Caterpillar in 1990 and enjoyed horses, hunting, four-wheelers and traveling. He could always be found following the kids and grandkids sporting events. He also had a talent for music. He could play an instrument of any kind just by ear and always entertained with his style of Bluegrass music and all other styles.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 11 am at the Wiley Cemetery in rural Ellisville. There will be no visitation.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Canton Elks Lodge from 2-?.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton has been entrusted with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society.
