Lewistown- Ruth E. Pollitt, 88, of rural Lewistown passed away at 10:00 AM Thursday September 2, 2021 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born November 21, 1932 at Lewistown the daughter of William and Bertha (Beaird) Vaughn. She married Roderick L. Pollitt on February 21, 1952 at Lewistown. He died May 5, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Verlyn Vaughn. Surviving are two children, William (Wanda) Pollitt of Austin, MN; and Pamela (Steve) Blackwell of Lewistown, two grandchildren, Dr. Megan Blackwell of Galesburg, and Rob (Trisha) Blackwell of Amana, IA; one brother, Albert Vaughn of Lewistown, and one sister, Janet (Raymon) Meyer of Avon.
Ruth graduated from Lewistown Community High School in 1950. Ruth worked at Illinois Bell as a telephone operator. After Ruth and Roderick were married she became a farm wife and helped with the family farm. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown, the Fulton County Farm Bureau, and the American Shorthorn Association. She enjoyed cooking, and following her children and grandchildren at the cattle shows.
The family would like to thank the staff at Graham Hospital extended care for the excellent care given to Ruth.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday September 7th at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Pastor Penny Frame officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. After the graveside service there will be a celebration of life at Noon at the Lewistown Park District building on N. Broadway. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund.
