Richard E. “Gene” Oatman

Richard E. “Gene” Oatman, 68, of Norris, passed away at 8:05 AM on Friday, September 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on January 28, 1953 in Canton, IL to Richard L. and Mary Lou (Pollitt) Oatman. He married Carol Martin on June 4, 1978 in Canton, IL. She survives.

Gene is also survived by one daughter; Tanya (Joseph Cole) Oatman of Mason City, IL; one grandson; Logan Grant; two brothers, Phil Oatman of Canton, IL and Tom (Lynn) Oatman of Lewistown, IL; three sisters, Donna Oatman of Canton, IL, Liz (Roscoe) Bickel of Canton, IL, and Charlene (Bruce) Shaeffer of Lewistown, IL; brother-in-law, Frank (Debbie) Martin; sister-in-law, Teresa (Bill) Powers; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Gene worked for Central Butane for 26 years. He also farmed for many years. He loved gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his grandson, Logan. He also loved going on multiple trips a year with Carol to Branson, MO.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church in Canton, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL.
