Ruth Adell Miller, age 91 of Canton, Illinois, formerly of Ipava and Carthage, passed away at 8:45 am on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton. She was born on March 23, 1927 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of Benjamin and Dorothea (David) Etter.
She was a graduate of Ipava High School. She then went to cosmetology school and became a beautician. She met her husband, James William "JW" Miller in Elvaston, Illinois. They were together for 24 years.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Teresa (and Rick) Brown of Indianapolis, Indiana, her son-in-law Don Collins of Sciota, Illinois, two grandchildren, Bradley Collins and Heather (and Mark) Gooding, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Collins, two sons, James Benjamin Miller and David Eugene Miller, and her sister Faith Shyrock.
Ruth was very musically inclined. She played the trumpet, hawaiian guitar, and the piano. During the days of Camp Ellis, she would play taps for the military funerals they held and up to just a month ago was entertaining the residents of Renaissance with her piano playing.
Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery.
