Donald K. White
Donald Kenneth White, age 72 of Smithfield, Illinois, passed away at 3:00 am on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Clayberg Nursing Center in Cuba, Illinois. He was born on June 11, 1946 in Avon, Illinois, the son of Kenneth Raymond and Grace Irene (Potter) White. He married Shirley Stephens on July 20, 1968 in Canton, Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Marcus (and Mary Beth) White of Danvers, Illinois and Michael (and Dawn) White of Smithfield, Illinois, one daughter Melissa (and Chris) Sallee, five grandchildren; Sierra Grace White, Zachary Ethan White, Chase Michael White, Carter Mitchell White, and Ainsley Irene White, and one sister Mariluan (and Theodore) Deming of Smithfield, Illinois.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Elinor White.
He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1966 to 1968 with a rank of Sergeant.
Don worked for International Harvester for more than 18 years. He then worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 20 years, retiring in 2011.
He loved farming, raising cattle and restoring and showing tractors. He enjoyed gospel music, singing, and storytelling. He loved his family so much and he lived for his grandchildren. Don was always willing to help his neighbors.
He was very much looking forward to heaven.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Dean Potts will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Illinois with full military rites provided by the Cuba American Legion and the Honor Guard from Scott Air Force Base. memorials may be made in Don's memory to the Smithfield Fire Department, the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene, or the Clayberg Nursing Center.
