Darrell D. Parsons
Canton, IL. –Darrell D. Parsons, 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at his residence.
He was born on October 25, 1930 in Fulton County to Thomas and Mary (Barberis) Parsons. They preceded him in death.
He married Lois Irene Griffin on May 24, 1952 in Canton. She survives.
Also surviving are his children Tom (Dawn) Parsons of Canton, Valerie (Kevin) Logue of Champaign, Jay (Shelly) Parsons of Kirtland Air Force Base, NM, seven grandchildren, Bobbi Jo, Michael, Jonathan, Joel, K.J., Allison and Olivia, two great grandchildren, Ariana and Addison, several nieces and nephews and his close friend Will Taggart.
Also preceding him in death are his brothers, David and Gary.
Darrell served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was privileged to take the Honor Flight in D.C. later in life. He later worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 42 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, the Canton Masonic Lodge, Canton American Legion Post #16 where he served as past Commander and the Canton Country Club. He served as a Boy Scout Leader, volunteered for the American Red Cross for 25 years as a driver and served Meals on Wheels. He also worked with the handicap and volunteered for Youth Acres for 40 years where he served as past Vice-President.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.
Cremation Rites have been accorded per his wishes.
