Barbara Whitney
Bryant – Barbara Ann Whitney, 83, of Bryant, flew to heaven at 12:39 PM on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Graham Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on October 13, 1934 in Peoria, IL to Wayne and Zelma (Logsdon) Slater. She married Richard Whitney on August 5, 1950 in Canton, IL. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2001.
Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Thomas Whitney; two grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one son-in-law, Carl.
Surviving are four children, Sherrie (Steve) Nebergall of St. David, Rick (Janet) Whitney, Penny (Bob) Wight of Bryant, and Tina (James) Whitney-Parrish of Canton; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Diane) Slater of Canton; and four sisters, Selma (Stan) Formhals of Lewistown, Karen Murphy of Canton, Nancy (Larry) Sprague of Canton, and Coco Stokes of Canton.
Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She also was a foster grandmother for over 20 years for Headstart. Barbara graduated as an LPN from Spoon River College. She was a member at St. David Church of the Nazarene and also a member of the genealogy society and royal neighbors. Barbara enjoyed her family, crocheting, flowers, her church, helping kids, and entering items at the Fulton County Fairs.
Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Rev. Burton Clarke will officiate. Burial will follow the services at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
