Hanna City- Ellen T. Bland, 61, of Hanna City, passed away Saturday December 9, 2017 at her home.
She was born December 17, 1955 in Graham Hospital , the daughter of Dr. and Mrs J.R. Thompson who were lifelong residents of Lewistown. She married Thomas G. Bland on June 22, 1985 in Lewistown. He survives with one sister, Maryjane Thompson-Schwab of Lewistown, two brothers, Richard J. “Rick” Thompson of Denver, CO; and James F. “J.F.” Thompson of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ellen worked as a dental hygienist for many years and had worked at her father’s dental office in Lewistown for several years. She received her Masters of Science degree from St. Francis University in Joliet. She was a member of the Illinois State Dental Society and ADHA, a member of the Illinois & Peoria Dental Hygiene Association. She loved to travel and had traveled to China, Russia, Africa, Ireland, Jordan, and Tibet. Ellen was an active member of the People to People International. Ellen traveled with the Humanitarian Relief Organization for dental health , and donated her time and expertise to indigent residents of both South Africa and St. Petersburg, Russia. She was an avid runner for over 40 years.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at the Lewistown United Methodist Church where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Reverend Shane Smith will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown United Methodist Church. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com
