Marvin Eugene Hamman
Marvin Eugene Hamman, 96, of Trivoli, Illinois, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family.
He was born November 8, 1919, in London Mills, Illinois, the son of George and Edna (Hatch) Hamman. He married Nina Josephine Capps June 23, 1941, in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Kenneth Hamman and infant daughter, Susan.
Gene is survived by one son, Richard (Jan) Hamman of Morton, two daughters, Anne (Jim) Patterson of Farmington, Janet (Dave) Jump of Clayton, MO; three grandsons, Bradley Hamman of Peoria, Todd Patterson of Lone Tree, IA, Brian Jump of Key Largo, FL; four granddaughters, Jody Patterson of Downers Grove, IL, Rachel Sutkowski (Mike) Ocala, FL, Anne Jump (Ed Rossier) of St. Louis, MO, Emily Jump (Zach Hartwig), Jamaica Plain, MA; two great-grandsons, Curtis Patterson and Simon Rossier; five great-granddaughters, Samantha Hamman, Savanna Sutkowski, Kylie Patterson, Mira Rossier and Veronica Hartwig.
Gene graduated from Western Illinois State Teacher’s College 1941. He attained the rank of Lt. Commander of the US Navy and served on the USS Humboldt during WW II. He enjoyed teaching math at Elmwood High School and managing his farm. In addition he was an insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual.
He was a member of Trivoli United Methodist Church. For many years he supported the church by making apple dumplings for the Spoon River Drive.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Trivoli United Methodist Church with visitation two hours prior to the service. Pastor Robert DeBolt will officiate. Burial will be at Trivoli cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to his church or the Logan-Trivoli Fire Department.
