Gidget Kelly
Canton – Diana K. “Gidget” Kelly, 55, of Canton died at 5:23 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born October 22, 1960, in Torrance, CA to Leonard “Eugene” and Dorothy (Greenup) Miller.
She is survived by one sister, Tina L. (Terry) McRoberts of Decatur; one niece, Rebekah Hill of Canton; one nephew, Michael Barker of Canton; four great-nieces, Gabriella, EV, Alyssa, and Haly; and her dear friend, Jill Dillefeld.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Gidget earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western Illinois University in 1983, where she was recognized on the Dean’s Academic Honors List and the National Dean’s List. In 1987, she was recognized as an Outstanding Young Woman of America. She enjoyed serving as a voice and advocate for the handicap and she communicated regularly with her state representatives.
Gidget was a self-proclaimed “Domestic Goddess”. She loved watching the news, having phone conversations with Jill to discuss the current episode of Little Women of L.A., and drinking her McDonald’s sweet tea.
Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of her Life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Elm Street Apartments Recreation Center. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials in her memory may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Chicago.
