John V. Parkin

John Vincent Parkin, 82, of Manito, passed away at his home at 8:00 a.m., on Monday, September 8, 2025. He was born April 21, 1943, in Spring Lake Township, Tazewell County, to Charles D. and Helen J. (Screen) Parkin. He married Patricia J. Wenskunas on February 17, 1973, in Pekin, Illinois.

John is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Manito; four children: Ryan Andrew (Tiffany) Parkin, of Westfield, Indiana, Anthony J.C. (Sarah) Parkin, of Manito, Matthew Paul (Heather) Parkin, of Carthage, Illinois, and Jessica Rose (Shannon) Risley, of Sullivan, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; as well as three siblings: Mary Watson, of Manito, Alice Waldinger, of Bradford, Illinois, and Josephine Hinkle, of Manito. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Parkin.
John was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Manito. He served in the Illinois Army National Guard and was a member of Hill Palmer American Legion Post #561, in Manito, for 53 years. He was also a member of the Manito Optimist Club from 1969, until it closed. He owned and operated Manito Oil and Propane, in Manito for 54 years. He was a loving father and friend that will not only be missed by his family, but by the entire Manito community.
Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. and visitation will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Manito, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. also at his church. Burial will follow the mass at St. Frederick’s Catholic Cemetery, in Manito. Fr. Geoff Horton and Deacon Bob Sondag will officiate.
