She was born January 12, 1939, in Havana to Frank and Helen (Trimpe) Shawgo. The Shawgo family’s deep roots in the community are remembered today with Charlotte Avenue and Shawgo Avenue, named in their honor.
On November 24, 1962, Charlotte married Douglas E. Kramer in Havana. They shared 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her dear friend, Paula N. Shumaker.
Surviving are her children, Bryan Kramer and Christine Kramer, both of Morton; grandchildren Justin, Bradley, Tabitha, Lynn, and Rachel; seven great-grandchildren; and members of the Shumaker family—Lene, Paige, Haley, Brandon, Connor—and five great-grandchildren.
A 1957 graduate of Havana High School, Charlotte attended Illinois Wesleyan University and taught elementary education before graduating from Methodist Nursing School in 1988. She devoted the rest of her career to caring for residents in area nursing homes.
