Marjorie Christine (Arnett) Guidi

Farmington – Marjorie Christine (Arnett) Guidi, 94, of Farmington, Illinois, passed away on May 24, 2021 at 11:45am at Courtyard Estates of Farmington.  “Marj” was born on February 27, 1927 in Decatur Illinois to Lydia  Catherine (Sternes) Arnett and Irving W. Arnett.  Marj had 2 sisters, Karen Lee (deceased) and Joyce Hamilton (deceased), and 2 brothers, Robert Arnett (deceased) and Paul Arnett (deceased).

Marj married Elmer C. Guidi on June 11, 1946. They were married for 59 wonderful years.  She was proceeded in death by Elmer on June 13, 2005 and son, Bruce C Guidi on November 17, 1963.

She is survived by her son, Bradford C. Guidi (Willa) of Princeville Illinois, daughter, Catherine C. Goldstein (Mitchell) of Boca Raton, Florida and son Todd C. Guidi of Farmington, Illinois.  She considered Joe (Jose) Dionisio Rodriguez (Marilia), a Brazilian exchange student in the Guidi home from July 1965-August1966, as her son, as well.

She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Eula Arnett (Paul) and nine grandchildren, Tasha Guidi Guth (Landon), Dominique Guidi, Aaron Goldstein, Matthew Goldstein, Cameron Guidi (April), Myranda Whitman (Scott), Chris Guidi, Kara Lair (TJ) Shaw Guidi; six great grandchildren Lia Guth, Karma Goldstein, Corrigan Whitman, Max Guidi, Ben Guidi and Piper Whitman.

She was a member of the Farmington Presbyterian Church for over 75 years.  She was a member of the session, choir and deacon, participating in and teaching Sunday school, events, decorating for holidays.  Her oil painting of Jesus stands as a testimony to her faith in the entrance foyer of the church.  She loved to share her faith with all who would listen.

Marj and Elmer owned and operated Marj-El Studio and Camera Shop in Farmington for 50 years. Marj was extremely involved in the studio as an artist, oil colorist, and coordinator, assisting Elmer at weddings, portrait sitting and school pictures.  Marj was an accomplished artist in her own right in oils, acrylics and pastels.  She won many awards in art, as well as being given a special recognition as a colorist by the Illinois Professional Photographers Association.

Marj was extremely involved in many sports throughout her life time.  She participated in bowling leagues at Ace Lanes, instructing junior league bowlers.  She was a member of Maple Lane Country Club for 53 years and although it was the truth, joked that she could beat the men from their tee-offs.  She loved the outdoors and participated in many activities including fishing, target shooting, mushroom hunting, gardening and softball.

Marj’s greatest joy was Camp Big Sky, an accessible camp for children and adults with disabilities and their families, friends and caregivers.  She was cofounder of the camp, long time member of the board of directors and volunteer.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Camp Big Sky, P.O. Box 56, Farmington, Illinois 61531.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff and nurses of Courtyard Estates for all of the love, support and care that they have shown our mother over the last 2 and a half years.  They also wish to thank the staff and nurses of Spoon River Home Health and Transitions Hospice for the countless hours they spent providing palliative care in her final week of life.  The compassion you showed and unconditional love that you displayed not only to our mother, but to our family and friends, was exemplary.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Rev. Dr. Linda Philabaun will officiate.
