She was born December 21, 1936 in La Rose, IL; the daughter of Paul C. and Effie B. (Burdick) Pinkston. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Clifford Pinkston and Charles (Chuck) Pinkston. Surviving are her children, Denise Roberts of Canton, and Kevin (Nancy) Roberts of Bryant, grandchildren, John (Matt Ferguson) Colglazier of Jeffersonville, NY; Mindy (Ty) Lockhart of Bend, OR; Aimee Roberts of Macomb, IL; Jennifer (Isaac) Teel of Pekin, IL; K.C. Roberts of Fort Wayne, IN; and one great grandson, Alexander Teel.
After graduating from Dunlap High School in 1954, Betty moved to the YWCA in Peoria, IL. She was first employed by a title company, and then by Hiram Walker Distillery. She met and married Charles Roberts of Bryant, IL in 1960, where she became a farm wife raising sheep, chickens, horses, flowers and vegetables. She also kept busy canning, cooking, crocheting, and raising her children. She worked at Laird’s Greenhouse in Bryant, was then employed as assistant Postmaster of the Bryant Post Office and also worked at JC Penney in Canton in the shoe and catalog departments.
She had transferred her church membership from the Peoria United Methodist Church to the Bryant United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed serving the Lord by teaching Sunday School, vacation Bible School, leading the heart line, and directing meal service for special events. She later transferred her membership to the Lewistown United Methodist Church and assisted with the annual pancake and sausage breakfast dinner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday April 16, 2025 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Pastor Shane Smith officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown United Methodist Church.
