Mary Joyce Crick

Mary Joyce Crick, 77, of Canton, passed away, Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Joyce was the daughter of James and Barbara (Lafferty) Simonson, born on August 13, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa. They preceded her in death as well as her brother, Dale “Tom” Simonson.

Joyce married Larry Crick on June 24, 1967 in Little York. They shared 36 years of marriage before he passed away in September of 2003.

She is survived by four daughters, Teresa Ellis of Canton, Kathy Crick of Lockport, Melissa (Jim) Zinke of Ashland, and Karen (Garrett) Thum of Smithfield, three granddaughters, Paige (Carter) Thompson, Samantha Thum, and Skylee Thum, one great grandson, Kase Thompson, five sister – in - laws, Judy Simonson, Caryl (Jerry) Spenny, Lucille (Max) Latimer, Charlotte (Dick) VanRossen, and Pam (Richard) Riley, and her favorite puppy Crickette.

Joyce was a Girl Scout leader during the 80’s and 90’s for many girls in the Cuba area. She returned to college during that time earning her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1992. She later worked as a substitute teacher in area schools and worked with the Little Learner program in the Canton School District. Lastly, she was a teacher for Head Start in Farmington.

In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, reading, scrapbooking, and attending her grandchildren’s games and activities. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family for summer vacations, Hawaii and Disney were some of her favorites. She also enjoyed meeting with her high school friends for monthly luncheons. She met many friends through scrapbooking and enjoyed retreats with her scrapbooking sisters.

A visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. there will be a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will immediately follow the services at Fiatt Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
