Jacquelynn's professional journey was marked by her role as an executive secretary and later as the first woman supervisor at Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg, Illinois, during the 1960s, a challenging position that she handled with determination and grace. She balanced her demanding 33-year career with her educational pursuits, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Knox College while working full time and caring for her mother-in-law. She and her husband also farmed 600 acres in Illinois for most of their lives.
Her personal life was enriched by her hobbies, which included cooking, playing card games, quilting, reading mysteries, gardening, and volunteering. Jacquelynn also had a musical side, especially loving jazz and classical music, and playing piano for the Methodist Church in Port Isabel, Texas for over 14 years.
She leaves behind a loving family: her son, Steve Simpson (Dawn), and daughter, Jeannie Duncan (John Thompson); four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Jacquelynn was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart David Simpson, Jr., daughter Sharon Kay Simpson Sparling (Rob), and grandson Steven David Simpson.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, Illinois. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jackie and Stuart Simpson scholarship fund at Knox College, Galesburg, IL, honoring Jacquelynn’s commitment to education and her community.
