Glen G. Manuel
Smithfield- Glen G. Manuel, 91, of Smithfield, passed away at 10:45 PM Monday September 17, 2018 at his home.
He was born September 28, 1926 at Roseville, IL; the son of William Glenn C. and Lona (Gregory) Manuel. He married Shirley A. Lafary on June 19, 1950 at Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 2, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Beverly I. Crabb.
Survivors include one son, Greg (Sue) Manuel of Smithfield, one daughter, Marcia (Don) Proper of Canton, three grandchildren, Cole (Michaela) Proper of Omaha, NE; Kyle (Rachel) Proper of Pekin, Sandy (Dwight) Eddington of Cuba, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and one brother David R. Manuel Sr. of Peoria.
Glen worked as a rural mail carrier and later retired as the Smithfield Postmaster. He was a WW 2 Navy veteran serving on the USS Montague. He was a member of the Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield, Cuba Masonic Lodge, and Cuba American Legion. He served on the District 3 School Board, Mid Century Telephone Board, and the Fulton County Health Board. He served as a trustee for Cass Township, a trustee for the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, and served as Smithfield Village President.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield with Pastor Ellen Dodd officiating. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery with military rites accorded by Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with a masonic service at 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brock United Methodist Church.
