Lyle D. "Lightening" Smith

Lyle D. “Lightening” Smith, 85, of Canton, passed away, Sunday, July 30, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on November 17, 1937, to Clyde and Marie (Schissler) Smith. They preceded him in death along with one son Chris Smith, one brother Dewayne (Carol) Smith, and the mother of his children, Joyce E. Bull. Surviving is his daughter Laura Howarter, and three grandchildren, Zach, Tyler, and Christopher. Lyle is a Veteran of the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. He retired from Caterpillar after 35 years. In his retirement Lyle enjoyed filling his Morton building full of tools, machinery, antiques and anything else he could find at the countless auctions he went to. A funeral service will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday August 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.
